WEEE

Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment

The abbreviation WEEE stands for ‘Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment". The aim of the directive is to prevent, reduce and dispose of the increasing quantities of electronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner through extended producer responsibility.

The EU directive came into force in January 2003 and is currently available in the version Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE-II). The WEEE Directive was implemented in Germany by the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), which was last amended in 2015.
